Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 is a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president and she also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017, and as an United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She was well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
